Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
